1 Game Day, 2 Cameras: Event Photography and Video for Viking Therapeutics at NC State in Raleigh, NC

Game day at Carter-Finley Stadium, Raleigh, NC.

Trade Street Media provided event video production and photography in Raleigh, NC for Viking Therapeutics' "Know Your Score" community outreach activation at NC State's game against Cal at Carter-Finley Stadium on October 31, 2026. Agency partner Jamie Goodwick of Goodwick Creative hired our two-person team, and NC State was the last of 4 university activations we covered for the campaign. After our first project, Goodwick hired us for 3 more. Over 6 hours and 40 minutes of coverage, we captured the tailgate, pregame, an on-field $10,000 check presentation and a live radio interview. Photo selects were delivered the following Monday, and the video was organized, synced and pre-selected so the client's editor could cut highlights fast.

The Client

Viking Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on therapies for metabolic and endocrine disorders. Its Know Your Score campaign is a free community health awareness program about the link between weight and long-term health. It reaches people through collegiate stadium events, expert-led health education and a quick BMI calculator, and it always points people back to their healthcare provider. The campaign's 2026 schedule lists seven ACC football markets.

We came in through our friend and colleague Jamie Goodwick of Goodwick Creative, who manages the activations for Viking. We covered 4 university activations for the campaign, and NC State was the final stop. As soon as we wrapped the first one, Jamie hired us for 3 more. As I put it after the game, every stop brought something different.

Supporting agencies is a big part of what we do. Jamie owns the client relationship and the creative. We show up, capture it and hand over files their team can use right away. We've done the same for media partners, like when we filmed 14 interviews in one day with SupplyChainBrain at the Gartner Supply Chain Planning Summit.

The Challenge

Eight hours on site. A tailgate, a marching band, a packed stadium, a check on the 50 and a radio booth. Two cameras.

A college game day doesn't wait for you. The tailgate tent is busy one minute, the band is forming on the field the next, and the on-field check presentation happens on the game's schedule, not yours. Then you climb to a broadcast booth for an interview. Every one of those scenes has different light, different space and a different crowd.

The hardest part was moving quickly from scene to scene. It wasn't the light, the crowds or the clock. It was having the right setup planned and deployed from the start, so we never had to figure anything out in the moment.

That's not something you improvise. In my view, that's what experience gets you compared with a crew that doesn't specialize in events. The results are made in pre-production. It's the same approach behind our conference and event video production.

Every scene has its own angle, light and crowd.

What We Did

Tailgate activation. Outside Carter-Finley, near the Lenovo Center, Viking's "Know Your Score" tent was a party. Red and black balloons, a step-and-repeat banner, cornhole, fans in "Beat Cal" stickers and a stack of Viking-horn helmets. Fans and NC State student-athletes lined up to put the helmets on and pose at the banner. I worked the tent with the 35mm for close, natural portraits and the 70-200 to catch candid moments from a distance without breaking them up. Jake moved through the plaza on the EasyRig gathering b-roll of the crowd and the activation. If candid event photography is what you need, you can see more of it in our corporate event photography for Fusion Connect in Charlotte and the rest of our event photography case studies.

Pregame and in-game atmosphere. Inside, we captured the band's pregame show, including the block S formation, along with the crowd, the end zone and the vikingknowyourscore.com ribbon boards running around the stadium. I shot from the stairs and the press level for the wide views that show how big a stadium activation like this really is.

Touchdown, Wolfpack.

The check presentation. This was the moment of the day. In the 2nd quarter, with NC State up 10–0, Viking Therapeutics presented a $10,000 check to NC State Athletics Sports Nutrition on the field. The memo line read "Fuel the Pack!" and the whole thing went up live on the Andy Albright Scoreboard for the stadium to see. We had both angles: the presentation on the turf and the same moment towering over the crowd on the big screen. Those are the shots a sponsor uses for the next year.

Radio booth interview. We finished in the broadcast booth, where Viking's story was told on air with Matt Chazanow, the Voice of the Wolfpack. Jake set up the FX3 rig to capture it. Clients who want moments like this to reach people live can pair coverage with our livestreaming services.

Post-production handoff. Jamie asked us for stills of the day, and we delivered photo selects on Monday, November 2, a quick turn so Goodwick could get them to Viking. On the video side, we categorized every file, synced the radio interview audio and pulled b-roll selects so Viking's editor could build highlight videos without digging through hours of footage.

Gear and Crew

Our team was two people: I shot photography, and Jake Lewis ran video. Every gear choice came back to one goal: move fast, stay safe and never miss a moment. (Learn more about our team.)

  • Sony A7V with a 35mm prime. Close and personal at the tent. A 35mm puts you in the moment with people, which is what the helmet photos needed.

  • 70-200mm zoom. Candid reach from the press level and the crowd, and tight frames on the field when you can't walk up to the action.

  • Sony FX3 with a 35-150mm. One lens covering wide to tight meant Jake didn't stop to swap lenses between scenes.

  • EasyRig. Steady, handheld-feeling footage all day without a tripod. It let Jake move from shot to shot easily, and it's safer in a crowd. A tripod is a tripping hazard around thousands of fans and slow to redeploy from scene to scene.

  • Atomos monitor. A bigger, brighter screen for judging focus and exposure in direct sun.

  • V-mount battery. One battery powered both the FX3 and the monitor. Reliable power for 6 hours and 40 minutes of coverage means no dead cameras during a once-only moment like the check.

  • Matte box with ND and polarizer. Quick exposure changes from bright plaza sun to shaded concourses and back without a full reset.
