From Concept to Campaign in One Week: Lake Norman High School's 25th Anniversary Fundraising Video

Some productions have months of lead time. This one had less than a week.

Trade Street Media partnered with Lake Norman High School in Mooresville, North Carolina, to help launch its 25th Anniversary Capital Campaign with a new fundraising film and a collection of supporting campaign materials.

We met with the school team on Thursday. The next day, we were on campus filming two-camera interviews with staff and students, capturing cinematic b-roll throughout the school, and flying a drone over the campus.

By the following Thursday, Lake Norman High School had its finished 4K campaign film, along with custom flyers, stickers, magnets, icons, and digital promotional assets. The timing mattered. The school wanted to premiere the video the following night on the stadium's big screen during the first football game of the season.

In seven days, the project went from a planning conversation to a finished campaign ready to meet the community.

Telling the Story Behind Lake Norman High School's 25th Anniversary

A fundraising video needs to do more than tell people that an organization needs money. It needs to give them a reason to care.

For Lake Norman High School, the 25th anniversary created an opportunity to celebrate the school's history while also looking toward its future.

Our goal was to connect those two ideas through the people who experience the school every day.

We wanted viewers to hear directly from staff and students, see the campus and community for themselves, and understand why investing in the future of Lake Norman High School matters.

That meant building the story around authentic interviews and then supporting those voices with footage that brought the school to life.

The finished film became the Watch Our Story video on Lake Norman High School's official 25th Anniversary Capital Campaign page, where it introduces visitors to the campaign before the school's founding donor call to action.

Filming Authentic Interviews With Staff and Students

The people at Lake Norman High School needed to be at the center of the story.

We filmed interviews with staff and students using a two-camera production setup.

Our primary camera provided a clean, composed interview angle. A second, wider camera was positioned on a motorized slider, creating subtle cinematic movement throughout the interviews.

The moving second angle gave us more creative options during editing while keeping the viewer focused on what each person was saying. It also allowed us to transition naturally between perspectives during longer responses.

The goal wasn't to make the interviews feel overly produced. They needed to look polished and cinematic while still feeling genuine.

For a fundraising film built around real people and their experiences, authenticity matters.

Capturing the Life of the School

The interviews gave us the story. B-roll allowed us to show it.

Throughout the production day, we moved around Lake Norman High School capturing students, staff, facilities, classrooms, hallways, and the everyday activity of the campus.

Using a DJI RS3 gimbal allowed us to create smooth, cinematic movement and give the finished video more energy.

That footage became especially valuable during the edit.

When someone talked about what Lake Norman High School means to its students or discussed what the school hopes to accomplish in the future, we could pair those words with imagery that helped viewers experience the school for themselves.

Aerial Video of the Lake Norman High School Campus

We also captured aerial footage of Lake Norman High School with a DJI drone.

The drone gave us perspectives that simply weren't possible from the ground. Wide aerial views established the size of the campus and created strong visual moments for the opening, transitions, and other key points throughout the film.

For schools, universities, nonprofits, corporate campuses, and other organizations where the physical location is part of the story, drone footage can quickly establish a sense of place.

For this project, the campus itself was an important part of Lake Norman High School's story.

Building the Fundraising Story in Post-Production

Once filming wrapped, the clock was running.

We had less than a week to turn the interviews, b-roll, drone footage, and campaign messaging into a polished fundraising film ready to be shown to a large public audience.

Post-production included:

  • Two-camera interview editing

  • Cinematic school b-roll

  • Aerial drone footage

  • Custom informational transition graphics

  • Custom lower thirds

  • Professional audio mixing

  • Color correction and grading

  • Custom music

  • 4K mastering and delivery

The informational graphics were particularly important because this wasn't simply a documentary about the school. The film had a specific purpose.

It needed to tell a compelling story while also communicating important information about the fundraising campaign.

We designed custom transition graphics and lower thirds that could communicate those details clearly without interrupting the emotional flow of the film.

Creating Custom Music for the Film

Music has an enormous influence on how a story feels.

For the Lake Norman High School campaign film, we produced a custom music track specifically for the project.

Instead of choosing a generic track and forcing the edit to conform to it, the music could support the pacing and emotional progression of the finished story.

As the film moved from reflecting on Lake Norman High School's first 25 years toward what could be possible in the years ahead, the music helped support that progression.

The objective was never to manufacture emotion. It was to support the genuine emotion already present in the interviews and imagery.

More Than a Fundraising Video

The project quickly became much more than video production.

Lake Norman High School needed supporting materials that could help promote the 25th Anniversary Capital Campaign throughout the year.

Within the same accelerated production schedule, Trade Street Media also designed:

  • Custom fundraising flyers

  • Campaign stickers

  • Magnets

  • Icons

  • Digital graphics

  • Additional promotional assets for community outreach

The flyers could be printed and distributed to local businesses, families, and members of the community.

The digital assets could support social media, online promotion, presentations, and other campaign communications throughout the year.

Stickers, magnets, icons, and related materials gave the school additional ways to create visibility and maintain a consistent campaign identity.

Instead of delivering one isolated fundraising video, we helped Lake Norman High School create a collection of coordinated video and digital assets that could continue working for the campaign long after the initial launch.

Designing a Video for the Stadium and the Web

The first major public showing of the video presented another interesting production consideration.

Lake Norman High School planned to premiere the finished film on the stadium's big screen during the first football game of the season.

This wasn't initially going to be watched on someone's phone or laptop. It needed to work in a large outdoor environment with hundreds of people watching together.

Graphics needed to remain clear and readable. The visuals needed enough impact for a stadium screen. Most importantly, the story still needed to connect with the audience.

At the same time, the film needed to work just as effectively online, where it would become a long-term part of the school's fundraising campaign.

We delivered the final video in beautiful 4K, giving Lake Norman High School a high-quality master suitable for both large-format presentation and digital distribution.

From Planning to a Finished Fundraising Campaign in One Week

The timeline is one of the things that makes this project stand out.

Thursday: We met with the Lake Norman High School team to discuss the campaign, story, production, and what needed to be accomplished.

Friday: We were on campus filming staff and student interviews, cinematic school b-roll, and aerial drone footage.

Over the following days: Video editing, custom music, informational graphics, lower thirds, audio finishing, color work, campaign asset design, revisions, and final mastering all moved forward.

Thursday: The finished 4K video and campaign materials were delivered to Lake Norman High School.

Friday: The film was ready to premiere at the first football game of the season.

In roughly one week, we moved from the initial conversation to a finished fundraising film and a substantial collection of supporting campaign materials.

That is a lot of creative and technical work to accomplish in a very short window.

But speed alone wasn't the objective.

The work still needed to be excellent.

Rapid Turnaround Requires More Than Working Fast

Tight deadlines don't leave much room for inefficiency.

This production worked because Trade Street Media and the staff at Lake Norman High School communicated closely, made decisions quickly, and remained focused on what needed to be accomplished.

There were a lot of moving pieces.

Interview schedules had to work around the school day. Cameras, lighting, audio, slider shots, gimbal footage, and drone operations all had to happen within a limited production window.

Once filming ended, video post-production and graphic design needed to move forward simultaneously.

That level of turnaround requires more than simply working faster.

It requires planning, organization, experience, good communication, and the ability to make creative decisions without unnecessary delays.

When the Deadline Cannot Move

Organizations don't always have the luxury of a long production schedule.

A fundraising campaign may need to launch. A conference may be happening next week. An important announcement may already have a scheduled date. An event may create an opportunity that won't happen again.

In those situations, the deadline isn't something that can simply be pushed back because the creative process needs more time.

That's where an experienced production team can make a significant difference.

Trade Street Media regularly works on productions where there is one opportunity to capture the content and a firm deadline for getting finished material into the client's hands.

For Lake Norman High School, we moved from initial planning through filming, post-production, custom graphics, campaign materials, and final 4K video delivery in approximately one week.

The deadline was aggressive.

The quality didn't have to be compromised to meet it.

An Ongoing Partnership With Lake Norman High School

This project was especially meaningful because our relationship with Lake Norman High School extends beyond this campaign.

Trade Street Media has worked with the school on previous productions, including livestreaming major events for students and families.

Returning for the school's 25th anniversary gave us an opportunity to contribute in a different way.

This time, our job wasn't simply to document an event.

We were helping Lake Norman High School tell its story, engage its community, support an important fundraising initiative, and create content that could continue working throughout its anniversary year.

That kind of trust matters to us, particularly when the message is important and the deadline is tight.
